The Parish of Our Lady of Lourdes began with the construction of the Church building, which was consecrated by Bishop Schmitt CMM on 10th January 1960. The building was constructed through the generous bequest of the late Dr Aidan Campbell.
Further improvements were made by the generosity of the Diocese, and a concerted campaign was organized in 1963 to pay the debt to the Diocese. The first years of the Parish were under the care of the Mariannhillers as the list of the priests active in the Parish shows.

In latter years the Parish has been under the care of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. The Parish has three masses at the weekend, one at 5 pm Saturday evening, the others at 7 am and 9 am Sunday morning. The Parish has an active Catholic Women’s League as well as many other parish associations, a financial council, a liturgy committee, sick visiting teams and a full complement of Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors and Catechists. A comprehensive outreach plan, with the excellent help of the A.M.R. sisters is made to the poor and the needy especially those at the Killarney Squatter Camp, and those in the local U.B.H., Central Hospital and Bartley Block Home for The Aged.
